FCX dropped 3.9 percent today as Wall Street's Hold consensus caught up with a stock pricing in a big earnings story. Freeport reports October 27 and is guiding for roughly 50 percent earnings growth — that's the lure. The problem is a Hold rating is the sell-side's polite way of saying the good news is already in the price. The Grasberg copper mine in Indonesia, by the way, is one of the world's largest copper-gold deposits, and it's the backbone of Freeport's 2026 bull case. That story is real. But when analysts collectively land on Hold, they're saying fair value, not a discount. Come October 27, either the earnings beat and warrant a re-rate, or they meet the bar and the stock treads water. Copper spot prices matter here.
